Mangaluru: Jail officials who presumed a court notice to be bail and released two prisoners incarcerated on murder charges, the Central Jail Superintendent has passed an order barring the annual increment of one of the prison officials at Mangaluru Sub-Jail as punishment.

DK district jail comes under Shimoga central jail and hence, the superintendent of the latter jail had asked a report in connection to the incident. Based on the report, a order has been passed to take action against the Assistant Jailer here.

The Jailer as well as the Superintendent had examined the court notice properly and signed for the release of the prisoners.

However, since both the officials are on probation, they have been exempted from the punishment. Instead, the Chief Warder who was promoted to Assistant Jailer 2 months back, will have to face the punishment.
