Mangaluru : ‘Karnatakada Raitha Chaluvali’, a book by CPI(M) leader K.R. Shriyan, released at NGO Hall at Mangaluru on Sunday, August 4th.
Families that have benefited from land reforms provisions in Dakshina Kannada have failed to show gratitude towards the Congress, which, the former Minister B. Ramanath Rai said here on Sunday, enabled the landless to have a right to till such land.
Mr. Rai said that a sizeable number of landless families in the district benefited by land reforms provisions implemented by the Congress government. “Though all were not benefited, there were a good number of families who became owners of land. These families have failed in showing gratitude to the party,” he said.
Mr. Rai said the present generation of youth were not aware of the agitations that farmers and other oppressed groups have suffered for their rights. “If they were aware of these struggles, it would have led to creation of a just society,” he said.
Mr. Rai thanked Mr. Shriyan for bringing out the book that details all farmers agitations in the State. “Though we both have differences in our ideologies, our common concern has been to ensure justice for poor,” Mr. Rai said.
Thinker G. Rajashekar, Maruti Manpade, State president of Karnataka Pranta Raita Sangha, and Ravikiran Punacha, State Secretary of the sangha, also spoke on the ocassion.
