Mangalore : The GDP doesn’t come just by investing some money by the government or just do not grow on trees, but it is the contribution and the hardwork of 46,000 crores of workforces of India, said Com Dipankar Mukherjee, CITU national secretary and CBT member.
He was speaking at the DK district convention of Karnataka State Provident Fund Pensioners Association held at Town Hall on March 7, Monday.
Speaking on the rally held at Delhi on Feb 23, he said around 5 lakhs all trade Indians except BBM participated in the rally and the parliament did not bother about it and the top national news papers did not had time to report the matter. This is the mind set of the media and politicians, he said.
He also said that pension in a civilized world is supposed to be the social security skill. The Indian government is thinking how to spend the budget amount of Rs 9.7 lakh crore, but do not think to allocate the budget for the pension.
At present, more than three lakhs labourers are getting less than Rs 100 pension per month. There are 2 crore organized labours and 44 crore unorganized labourers.
The labourers are not given the pension for their effort and hard work, but the present MP’s are given the pension of Rs 30,500 every month for not contributing anything.
The labourers must ask fundamental questions to MLA’s and MP’s that if they are getting pension perfect without any contribution, then why the labourers are not getting pension for their effort, he said.
Comrade B Madhava, demanded the Union government to amend Provident Fund Act, 1952, based on which pension scheme 1995 (EPS-1995) has been formulated. There are more than 28 lakh EPF pensioners under this scheme, some of whom receive pension of Rs 7 to 10 per month.
He also stated that the EPS-1995 pension scheme has proved to be a curse for the more than 28-lakh labourers covered under the scheme. There has been no revision in their pension for the last decade and returns of capital and commutation benefits too have been withdrawn in 2008. The March 7 meeting will shed light on this and other major lacuane afflicting the scheme.
