Bengaluru : Karkala MLA, V Sunil Kumar, has been appointed as the chief whip of the state assembly.
Sunil, a three-time MLA, had also discharged duties as the opposition chief whip in the assembly in the past.
He worked as the state convener of Bajrang Dal in 2002 and national secretary of BJP Yuvamorcha later. During his student days, he was involved with Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad. He got elected as MLA for the first time in 2004. He lost the election in 2008 but was re-elected twice hereafter in consecutive elections held in 2013 and 2018.
Sunil Kumar also had been fielded by the party as a candidate for Udupi – Chikkamagaluru by-poll which he lost in 2012.
