Mangalore: A group of GSB volunteers on Thursday had prevented DC administration officials in Carstreet in city from demolition of an illegal structure built around an Peepul tree located near Venkataramana Temple. The demolition squad had to return after just removing a few stones near the flat form that has become an issue. It is in a list of illegal religious structures that the districts officials have drawn up under Supreme Court order recently.
The district administration had asked the temple management to reduce the size of the structure, if it cannot be totally demolished. A few local corporators and other politicians were stated to be such demolition or a change. People rushed to protect the structure when demolishers tried to reduce the size of the flat form.
Police intervention at this stage prevented any further skirmishes between and demolishing squad. There was along wait.
The DK administration has decided to give some more time to the temple authorities to reduce the size of illegal platform around the Bodhi tree.
