Belgaum: The three-day World Kannada Conference held in border town of Belgaum came to an end on Sunday last. It has been decided by the Karnataka Govt., to maintain international relations with NRKs by holding the convention once in 5 years, not 25 years. This was confirmed at the valedictory function by CM Yeddyurappa at the Kundanagari gathering. The next meet and venue have to be decided, he added. He expressed satisfaction over the fact that the Belgaum Conference had provided a lot of inspiration and activity to the other border districts, largely from Hyd-Karea.
Dr.D.Javare Gowda, a former Vice-Chancellor of Mysore University who presided over the valedictory session expressed the opinion that it was wrong to tax all English medium as they took huge donations to teach in a foreign language and discouraged Kannada learning. He, however, added that English is needed in India, so it should not be hated as a medium of instruction. He wanted Kannada to take spot in Karnataka as the language of administration in the State.
In the meanwhile, taking advantage of the Kannada spurt in North Karnataka, Udayavani Daily from Manipal opened two mare editions in Kannada on Sunday at Hubli and Gulbarga and dedicated then to Kannada people.
