Mangalore: On May 22, 2010 an air crash took place on Bajpe Runway and forests at the end, killing 158 people including 2 pilots, 2 stewardesses and 2 other staff. A provisional Compensation was paid to the sorrowing families by Air India and the Minister for Civil Aviation, Praful Patel who is now replaced by Vayalr Ravi who visited Mangalore on Sunday for the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of Bajpe Airport in City on March 13.
An Aircrash Victims’ Families’ Association led by Md.Beary, was formed later to secure rightful compensation to the aggrieved families. Allegations were made against Air India for not setting the dues equitably, according to actual losses suffered by victims’ families.
Beary has hired Swedish Law firm to help settle the compensation in 75 cases. The firm Advocaterna Liman and Partners, represented by Lawyer Stephen Eriksson, has charged a fee of 30% above a certain (final) compensation received by a victims’ family. The firm processed several document on Sunday, March 13, hoping to collect more documents in the 3rd week of this month.
The law firm will visit Dubai and collect relevant documents from those who work there.
Beary stated that his Association was dissatisfied with M/s Mulla and Mulla appointed by Air India, to determine the compensation.
The Association wants the basic consideration to be the “life’s worth” of each victim and not what he (or she) earned at the time of death in the air crash salary.
Pradip Kotian a survivor was not happy with the total compensation he waqs offered in lakhs. He wanted a job that provided similar lifestyle he had in Dubai, besides ample compensation for loss of income till now.
Meanwhile, M/s Mulla and Mulla has reportedly called 70 families and settled 50 cases out of them for final judgement.
