New Delhi: A Rajya Sabha constituted panel has made 16 charges of irregularities and corruption against the Sikkim High Court Judge P.D.Dinakaran who now faces impeachment proceedings in Parliament.
The committee of enquiry consisted of SC Justice Aftab Alam, KHC Chief Justice K.S.Kehar and eminent Jurist P.P.Roy. It has issued the charge-sheet on March 16 to the former CJ of Karnataka Justice Dinakaran, seeking response by April 9.
Charges made against him included possession of wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income, illegal encroachment on public property and land belonging to Dalits and weaker sections of Society, five plots made out in favour of his wife and 2 daughters under TM Housing Board, acquiring and possessing agro-holdings beyond ceilings fixed in Tamil Nadu, certain benami transactions etc.. Justice Dinakaran allegedly fixed rosters of judges to facilitate dishonest judicial decisions in Karnataka as the then CJ of , too. He has been granted the liberty to hire a lawyer to fight his case. He had been recommended to Supreme Court as Judge in 2009 but the move was prevented by allegations breaking out against him.
The motion for Justice Dinakaran’s removal was admitted in the Rajya Sabha on 17-12-2009, when Hameed Ansari Vice-president and RS Chairman, created the panel to probe into the allegations, which it did.
