Mangalore: The Project Displaced Families (PDF) have 186 representatives one each in a family who completed their training in KPT for the career jobs promised to them in MSEZ by MRPL extension under ONGC some months ago, but the promises had been broken. There is an indefinite strike by trainees (completing their term) and those still undergoing training (188 more) at the DK DCO gates 3 weeks from March 1.
City MP Nalin Kumar on March 6 had assured the youngmen from the displaced families that he could convene a crucial meeting today (March 21) at DC office to discuss fulfillment of the agitational demands. The DK district administration also assured similarly. Elected officials and MRPL authorities were expected to meet today to thrash out the issue of providing gainful employment on completion of training by the striking youth group.
But quite contrary to what was said all these days, no meeting took place so far. No representatives like Kateelu (MP) spoke to the protesters who are frustrated now. Only additional DC Prabhakar Sharma indicated that the co-called meeting was postponed to take place on March 25, four days hence, as concerned officials were out of station.
Except vague assurance said a protestor, nothing had happened all these 21 days. No political steps to address the demands were taken up during the waiting period.
Both kinds of youths (who completed training and continuing training at KPT) are in the agitation. The demand is either provide jobs with high salaries for all, or pay Rs.30 lacs each to (186+188) protestors in compensation for spoiling their future plans, as many were studying in colleges earlier and cut off their studies on the promise of jobs in MRPL/ONGC.
