Mangalore, Mar 22: The Anganwadi workers affiliated to the Karnataka Rajya Anganwadi Noukarara Sangha staged a protest in front of Zilla Panchayath office on March 22 demanding a revised pension scheme.
The anganwadi workers raised slogans against the Government for introducing a pension scheme, which was not beneficial to workers.
Addressing the protestors Ravikala, district president of Anganwadi workers of CITU said that the workers had been demanding a LIC-based pension scheme, but the State Government had introduced a new pension scheme, NPS Lite, which was undependable.
Karnataka State Anganwadi Workers Union, the Statewide protest demanded that salaries, usually referred to as ‘honorarium’, of anganwadi workers and helpers be increased from Rs. 2,500 and Rs. 1,250, respectively, to Rs. 6,000 and Rs. 4,000.
They said that the Government is neglecting the welfare of anganwadi staff members and called for united efforts to fight for their rights.
