Udupi : The first person in Udupi district died due to coronavirus infection in KMC hospital Manipal on May 13 and his Covid-19 positive report confirmed on May 16.

The deceased is a 54-year-old man resident of Kundapura taluk and he arrived from Maharashtra on May 5.

He was admitted to KMC Manipal on May 13. He died on May 14 after he suffered a heart attack.

His swab sample was sent for testing sameady of admision. The report result came as positive on Saturday, May 16. He was undergoing treatment in isolation as he was suffering some respiratory issues as well.

“Some staff who were in contact with the patient during treatment are put under quarantine.

Deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha said, “Five members who travelled with the deceased are quarantined. Three staff of KMC Manipal had come in contact with him without safety measures.

It is said, as many as 57 members are identified as primary contacts of the deceased, who were quarantined in Kundapur in a hall. Thirty-eight people are secondary contacts,  he said.
