The present population has 62.37 crores of males and 58.65 crores of females. It equals the combined population of Indonesia, Pakistan, Bangla Desh, Brazil and Japan now.
The 2001-11 decade has added a lesser population compared to earlier decade, Census Commissioner of India. C.Chandramouli stated in the presence of Home Secretary, G.K Pillai, today.
Uttar Pradesh is the most populous (19.9 crores) and Lakshadweep least populated at 64, 430..
The highest density is in Delhi’s north-east district at 37, 346/sq.km., while Dibang Valley in Arunachal Pradesh (a far corner of India) has the lowest one. Child sex ratio in 2011 is 914 female to 1000 males, the lowest in 65 years.
Literacy is 74% of total population above 7 years in 2011 and this in 2001 was 65%.
