Mangaluru : Indian Meteorological Department has Announced Red Alert on August 4 and 5 in the coastal districts, and also orange Alert will be continued from August 6 to 8.
Heavy rains have been lashing various parts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts since the past two days causing damage at several places. There have been instances of landslip, trees and electric poles getting uprooted due to strong winds.
At Boliyangady near Melkar a lorry overturned during heavy rains. The picture of the lorry being lifted by a crane also went viral on social media. At Soorikumeru near Maani, passengers of a car had a providential escape when a tree rolled over the car.
At Ammunje in Bantwal taluk, the pillars laid for the construction of the minorties department hostel were buried in slush after there was a landslip at a nearby hill.
Heavy rains in Udupi district has inundated several villages like Navunda and Badakere in Kundapur. There were even artificial floods at several places.
People living close by river banks have been asked to remain on alert while fishermen have also been warned against venturing into the sea.
