New Delhi: At long last, the Supreme Court today announced that the ban on transportation and exports of iron ore imposed by state in Karnataka, would be revoked from 20th April next.
A bench of Justice R.V Ravichandran and Justice A.K Puttanaik passed the interim order from the apex court, when told that rules for regulating iron ore mining and transportation were notified on 1st April this year.
The new rules prevent illegal mining of iron ore and its removal. The state govt got 15 days from the Supreme Court to put in place its infrastructure related to iron ore mining.
Last year the Karnataka govt had banned outright the export of iron ore, without realising the huge revenue losses it incurred thereby, as per notifications in July 2010.
