Mangalore: A boycott call by pre-university (PU) lecturers has jeopardized the evaution works of answer scripts began here on Friday. Hundreds of students affected by the call. A state wide boycott in 40 other evaluation centres has already taken its toll with the call for equal-pay scales for PUC and Degree lecturers.
A group of lecturers forming their own union walked out of the evaluation centre in Canara College (Kannada Paper), Sharada PU College (History), St.Agnes College (Economics) and St. Aloysius PU College (English), on Friday, April8 at 1-00pm on the opening day.
Subramanya Bhat, a protesting lecturer at the Govt. PU College of Manchi, said the demand for equalization of pay-scales of PU and Degree lecturers, was the last and only pending demand that was not fulfilled by the Education Dept. concerned.
What was Rs.150/- in 1980, rose to Rs.2,000 in 2006, and in 2011, the margin reached Rs.13,000.
Where as the work of evaluation is of the same nature in the in PU and Degree answer scripts, why should lecturers in PU be discriminated against the Degree classes, Bhat enquired.
Viresh of Govt.PU College in Krishnapura in Mangalore Taluk asked the Govt. to remove the disparity immediately in PU and Degree college lecturers. Repeated appeals brought no positive response, to the PU lecturers who resorted to present boycott to show their resentment in the matter, as a way out of crisis.
