Mangaluru : The Customs officials seized foreign currency worth Rs 5,52,678 at Mangalore International Airport on Monday March 1.

The passenger who was intercepted is identified as Muzakkir Ahamed Faqui Ameda hailing from Honnavara of Uttara Kannada district. Muzakkir, who was set to travel to Dubai by flight No SG143, tried to smuggle the foreign currency with denominations in Pound Sterling, Dollar and Kuwait Dinar out of India by secreting in his inner garments kept in his baggage.

The said foreign currency was attempted to be smuggled without valid documentary evidence and in a clandestine manner.

The Customs team was led by Avinash Kiran Rongali IRS deputy commissioner, Customs, and comprised Rakesh and Vikas, superintendents.
