Mumbai : The Union Agriculture Minister, founder of NCP which is a part of UPA at the Centre, and Bombay Cricket Association chief patron, has been elected president of International Cricket Council (ICC) which has its headquarters in Dubai, Arabian Gulf. He took over on June 30 this year after dilly-dallying with the offer made 4 years ago but dodged. His BCCI is in a mess over IPL earnings and new franchises in Mumbai.
Pawar is the second Indian to head the ICC after Jagmohan Dalmiya of Kolkata and Bengal Cricket Association, who was powerful and raised the fortune of BCCI, before being deposed by Pawar’s cronies in Mumbai, citing financial irregularities. Pawar heads ICC when World Cup in Cricket Tournament is arranged in the sub-continent in 2011 (next year) by India, Sri Lanka and Bangla coming together as host nations. More power to Pawar’s elbows.
