Mangaluru, : “A Day for Women’s Safety” programme organised by the City Police Commissionerate to sensitize women about the Emergency Response Support System Helpline 112 was inaugurated by Olympian and Arjuna Awardee athlete M R Poovamma on August 28, Saturday.
Poovamma flagged off the ERSS vehicle near the Commissioner’s office. Speaking on the occasion, Poovamma opined that this Emergency Response Support System goes a long way in bringing in a sense of security in women.
A mock show on the operation of the ERSS-112 Helpline was also performed at the Athena Hospital in the presence of City Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar, Poovamma, her mother Janaki and other senior officials.
Addressing the staff and students at the Athena Hospital, Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar said the ERSS vehicle upon receiving any distress call on 112 will rush to the particular spot in the city limits within five to ten minutes and within 15 minutes the distress call is received from the outskirts of the city.
DCP Hariram Shanker and other senior officials were present.
