Mangaluru :  A Memorandum of Understanding was signed today i.e. 3rd December, 2021 jointly between NITTE (Deemed to be University) and The Central Arecanut and Cocoa Marketing and Processing Cooperative Limited (CAMPCO Ltd.) and Arecanut Research and Development

Foundation ®  on the following:

-Evaluation of Cellular and organismal cytotoxicity of Arecanut is primary and oral cancer lines.

-To study the organismal and sub organismal effect of Arecanut on Drosophila melanogaster

-To study and compare proliferation angiogenesis and genomic instability in zebrafish embryos on exposure to Arecanut extract with standard arecoline.

-To establish the relationship if any between Arecanut chewing and the risk if any for development of any oral cancer and precancerous  lesions.

The Research on the forementioned parameters will be conducted at Nittee, Deemed University recognised by the Human Resources Development under Section 3 of the universities Grant Commission Act 1956.  This would certainly help the industry to take up a focussed Research activities on Arecanut beneficial uses and thus help the  Farming community.  The dialogues on other alternate use of arecanut like utilisaiton of certain compounds available in the commodity for commercial, therapeutic uses, which shall be take up in the days to come.

The Memorandum was signed in the presence of the President and  Board of  Directors of CAMPCO Ltd. Executive Officer, ARDF and the Registrar of Nitte – Deemed to be University and Director (Projects and DST TEC)
