New Delhi: The first Jan Lokpal Bill drafting committee meeting of 5 ministers and 5 civilians, chaired by Pranab Mukherjee and co-chaired by Shanthi Bhushan, former Union Law Minister, was held in the capital and was only audio-graphed (to be heard and not seen). The 90 minute meeting went of smoothly.
Kapil Sibal one of the members from Central ministers group, later told waiting pressmen that both sides were interested in that the new Bill should be introduced in monsoon session of the Parliament, beginning early July next.
The second meeting of the Bill committee is due on May 2.
Both sides (official and civil) presented their versions of the projected legislation, but the draft given by civilians had made significant new proposals, according to telecom minister Sibal.
Whenever decisions are made, they will be largely publicized.
The draft bill committee will discuss both the drafts of two sides. The civilian draft has altered his earlier (old) provision to have Prime Minister and Leader of Opposition to choose the Jan Lokpal sand members.
