Udupi : Dr. Satheesha Nayak B, Alambi, Professor of Anatomy at Department of Basic Medical Sciences, Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) Manipal, Tops the list of Indian Anatomy researchers in the Stanford University list of top 2% Scientists in the world. The list was released October 4, 2023.
He is the only Anatomists of India to be featured in both “Single year” and “Career’ categories of this list. Dr. Nayak’s name has appeared for the third time in this list. Over the past three years, Dr. Nayak has improved his scientific ranking tremendously. In the currently released list, he is holding First rank among Indian researchers and 56th rank among the world researchers in the category “Anatomy and Morphology”.
Most of the Indian researchers in this list are from the leading universities like IISc, IITs, NITs, and IIITs, etc. Though there are different categories/subdisciplines, this list is a common list comparing the researchers of all disciplines of science. Hence, it is extremely difficult for an Anatomist to find a place in the list as Anatomy is not a popular research field when compared to many other disciplines of science. Dr. Nayak is the topper among the only two Indian Anatomists who are featured in this prestigious list.
According to the Stanford – Elsevier report, the top 100,000 Scientists in the world were ranked based on standardized citation indicators such as information on citations, H-index, co-authorship, and a composite indicator. These scientists were classified into 22 scientific fields and 176 sub-fields. For analyses of the citations and the composite indicators, SCOPUS data was used. Scopus is a huge multidisciplinary database with citations and abstracts from peer-reviewed journal literature, trade journals, books, patent records, and conference publications.
Dr. Nayak, has published more than 400 scientific research article in many prestigious high impact International Journals, the main area of his research being Human Anatomy and Medical Education. His research has benefited the scientists of various medical sub disciplines worldwide. He has guided several Ph.D. projects and has been the Ph.D. examiner for many other universities. Apart from bagging the best teacher wards several times, he has bagged University level and state level gold medals for excellence in scientific research.
Dr. Nayak is an active reviewer and member of editorial boards of many prestigious international journals. He also has to his credit “The Certified Sentinel of Science” award from PUBLONS for his excellent review of scientific research articles.
Dr. Nayak has made into the India Book of Records and Limca Book of records recently for growing world’s tallest tapioca plant. His Swachh Bharath activities have been recognized by the Govt of India and he is one of the winners of “Water Heroes” contest of Govt of India.
Dr. Nayak is the alumnus of Govt Higher Primary School, 80th Badagabettu, Parkala High School, Manipal Junior College, Mahathma Gandhi Memorial College, Udupi and Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, He is the son of Shri. Vittal Nayak and Lakshmi Nayak, Alambi. Udupi District of Karnataka.
