Mangaluru : A person ended his life by jumping into the Netravathi river through the side opening of the fencing on the bridge on October 30, Monday afternoon.

The deceased is identified as Prasanna (37), son of B S Shankargowda, a resident of Mugulaballi Gokul Farm near Chikkamagaluru.

The man, who arrived from Thokottu, stopped his car on NH 66 and jumped into the river from the side opening of the fencing.

Eye witnesses ran for Prasanna’s rescue. As scores of people gathered at the site of the incident, traffic on NH was affected for some time.

A fence was set up to prevent people from jumping of the top of the bridge into the river with grant from MUDA. After the fencing, the suicides had stopped.
