Bangalore: Films made in Konkani are rare to come by these days. This shortage has been removed by a new Konkani film, “Ujwad” (light of the day), being produced under the banner of Kasaragod Chinna Arts, by a famed stage artiste who has also done roles in films, with Chinna himself directing the screenplay/film.
‘Taranga’ Kannada weekly editor Sandhya Pai from Manipal has a mother in search of a suitable matrimonial partner for her daughter. Neethu is the heroine, who is happy that the role fits her real self without make-up.
The Muhurat (opening shot at auspicious moment) of the film is arranged on Friday morning at the Ganapathy temple at Kumaraswamy Layout, in Bangalore. Sandhya Pai’s entrance to this Konkani film on Gowda Saraswat Brahmin culture, gives the entire picture a new bright outlook, with family gods, festivals and social systems, woven into the film story written by Kasaragod Chinna and award winner Perla Gopalakrishna Pai. Sadashiva Brahmavar, a veteran actor and several celebrities are also coming in to do cameo roles in ‘Ujwad’ that rolls on sets today.
