Mangaluru : Mayor Sudhir Shetty Kannur has informed that the state government has approved the proposal to name the road from near Circuit House upto Bejai Circle after former defence minister George Fernandes.

The road will be officially named after the great leader and son of the soil at a formal ceremony to be held near Bejai Circle on July 6 at 4 pm, the Mayor said.

Mangaluru South MLA Vedavyas Kamath, DK District in-charge Minister Dinesh Gundurao and MP Brijesh Chowta will grace the occasion. Bejai Church Parish Priest Rev Fr J B Saldanha will bless the occasion. Michael Fernandes, the brother of George Fernandes, MLCs Manjunath Bhandari, Ivan D’Souza, S L Bhojegowda, Mangaluru North MLA Dr Bharath Shetty and others will participate in the function.
