Udupi : The Udupi Town Police have registered cases of cheating and forgery against two persons who produced forged Aadhaar cards to stand as surety in a criminal case before the Additional and Sessions cum fast track court in Udupi.

The case was registered against M.I. Ibrahim and A.K. Hamid based on a complaint from S. Abbas, Chief Executive Officer of the Udupi District Court. Mr. Abbas said the fast track court was inquiring case No. 57/2024 of the Kollur Police under Special Case No. 100/2024.

The two accused who intended to stand as sureties to the accused produced copies of their Aadhaar cards as proof of identity on Saturday. When the Aadhaar cards produced by them in different cases before other courts and the instant ones were cross-checked, the officials found variations in the same.

In his complaint, the officer said the accused produced forged documents with an intention to cheat the court. The police have registered cases of cheating and forgery against the accused and are investigating.
