Mangaluru : The New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA) proudly welcomed MS SILVER WHISPER, the first cruise vessel of the season, at Berth No. 4 today. The luxury Bahamian-flagged ship arrived from Mumbai, carrying 299 passengers and 296 crew members on board.
In a ceremonial exchange, Shri Mullai Muhilan M.P. IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada District, presented a commemorative plaque to the ship’s captain, symbolizing the region’s warm hospitality. Smt. S. Shanthi, Deputy Chairperson, NMPA, along with other dignitaries, graced the occasion. The ship’s master reciprocated the gesture with a memento for the Deputy Commissioner.
MS SILVER WHISPER, a prestigious vessel in the Silver Cruises fleet, boasts a length of 186 meters, a draft of 6.20 meters, and a gross tonnage of 28,258. The ship is on an international itinerary, covering Cape Town, Mumbai, New Mangalore, Colombo, and beyond, offering travelers a unique voyage experience.
Upon disembarking, passengers were greeted with a traditional Indian welcome and captivated by a mesmerizing Bharatanatyam performance, showcasing India’s rich cultural heritage.
Passengers also explored the cultural treasures of Dakshina Kannada, including visits to iconic sites such as the Thousand Pillar Temple in Moodabidri, Kadri Manjunatha Temple, St. Aloysius Chapel, and the Artisan Village in Pilikula.
NMPA ensured a seamless experience for passengers with its state-of-the-art facilities, including 14 immigration counters, 2 customs counters, medical screening facilities, and a range of conveniences such as transportation options, a Ministry of AYUSH meditation center, and a selfie stand depicting “Yakshagana” by the Ministry of Tourism.
This inaugural cruise marks the beginning of a vibrant season for NMPA, reaffirming its growing reputation as a premier cruise destination in India.
