New Delhi: Former Chief Minister and MP Basavaraj Bommai said the truth behind the alleged inappropriate statement made by MLC CT Ravi in the Legislative Council must be investigated.
Speaking to reporters in New Delhi on Friday, he stressed the need for a thorough inquiry into the matter. “We cannot justify the behavior of the police. In the past, this government did not punish those who chanted ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ in the Vidhana Soudha. The BJP MLC has very clearly denied making such a statement. We are speaking in a fair manner, and we have not opposed an investigation. However, making a final decision without a proper investigation or verification of facts is incorrect,” Bommai said.
The MP accused the Karnataka government of administrative failures and stated that the state is turning into a “police state” with frequent misuse of police powers. Several SITs have been formed to conduct investigations targeting opposition parties out of political vendetta. Even the Chief Minister himself is embroiled in corruption and is being investigated. In such a scenario, the misuse of police power has now extended to the Vidhana Soudha.
Referring to recent incidents, the former CM said during the Belagavi session, there was a lathi charge on farmers belonging to the Panchamasali community, causing bloodshed. Such actions had not been seen during earlier protests by farmers or the same community. It seems that both the Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister are under the impression that they can do anything using police oppression.
Regarding the arrest of Ravi inside the council, Bommai wanted the Chairman to make a decision on the incident.
MP Govinda Karjol was present.
