Mangalore: On May Day (May1) a robust giant rally of Employers and labourers is expected to take place at the Central Maidan, Mangalore at 4pm (it) being Sunday, a weekly holiday for all, informed Sudath Jain, General Secretary, of the May Day Celebrations Committee at Hotel Woodlands in a press conference arranged at noon on Friday (29th April). K Ajith Kumar Maladi heads the organisers’ committee.
Monappa Poojary city committee chief, Jalandhar Shetty, president, Santhosh Kavoor, city Convenor, Nagesh Bantwal, organizing secretary besides other leaders were present on the occasion.
Jain stated that workers formed the best property of this country in their honesty, hard work and unity. Yet often, they had to struggle and fight for their guaranteed rights in any agreement with employers or the Govt., which was unfortunate. It would do good if concerned authorities woke up at least now and provide workers their justice.
Some of the demands elaborated by Jain at the meet were:
1) Non-interference of politicians in workers freedom.
2) There should be no restrictions against the normal benefits/facilities that should go to unorganized labour in making their own future easy.
3) The Govts at the Centre and states should appoint only such persons (MLA/MP) as Minister of Labour, who have compassion for workers.
4) There should be no aggression over farmers by industrialists and capitalists, and so on.
Presently, the human society in India is between the devil and the deep sea of corrupt practices, internal terrorist activities, communal divisiveness,, atrocities upon women workers and division between owners and the workers assuming chasmic proportions. The May 1programme has, therefore, adopted the slogan, “Remove corruption and save resourcefulness of India” to serve both owners and employees on a large scale, Jain stated.
He expected about 30,000 persons to take part in the procession and programme to be attended by film stars like Upendra, Umashree, Sadashiva Brahmavar and lawyer Prameela Nesargi. The procession starts at Jyothi Circle by 3pm to proceed to the Central Maidan rally, the Mangalore branch of All India Workers’ Union stated.
