Mangalore: The MCC Commissioner Dr. K.N. Vijay Prakash has gone on record on Friday, at a monthly meeting of the MCC council, that CM Yeddyurappa on a visit to Mangalore on Friday had argued for all works to be taken up by bids invited at one go (all at a time), under the second (or special) grant of Rs.100 crores made to MCC recently.
The civic body will have to take up all pending works in 3 years period between2011 and 2014. In the first (financial year, bids should be invited for the works upto around Rs.35 crores, Dr. Vijay mentioned to the councilors on Friday. When the matter was brought before CM when he was here this week, CM get the condition lifted in Govt. order approving the action plan on Feb.23 (this year), to facilitate all works to be started simultaneously.
Once the amendment becomes functional by a revised order, the work need not go into various phases, he explained. The action plan “thrust” related to laying of payments (which were destroyed) along concreted roads, and to concretize (or improve) more roads, untouched so far, he added.
In the first allocation of Rs.100 crore earlier, only Rs.13 crores remains to be spent, as Rs.87 crores were spent on road improvements, DR. Prakash stated.
The council has now approved the proposal to allow MUDA to plan the alignment of an 18km road stretch from Kulur Bridge to the Nethravathi river bridge to enable a 30km ring road known as “Mangala Korniche”, as a new project for the Mangalore city.
An agenda note placed before the Council did not however specify the (balance) 12km. stretch, and as to where it would pass through, to complete the Ring road of 30km.
The MUDA had to also specify how many families would be affected (or displaced) by the project. The councilors asked for a map of the proposed (ring road 30km) project.
The council agreed to the advance approval given by Mayor Praveen Anchan to a Bellary firm to conduct ‘spot’ water-billing to costumers. The firm would get Rs.7.25 per bill, so an AIEE told the meeting.
Mayor Praveen Anchan presided over the meeting.
