New Delhi: The Supreme Court was surprised to see so many zeroes added to a person’s incomes in the case of a corporate lobbyist Neera Radia and other black-money dealers in India, and rebuked the income tax sleuths on going slow in the matter of recovering adequate taxes on their huge incomes, in spite of hoisting cases against Hassan Ali Khan (Pune)and other over-rich earners of filthy money.
SC bench was on Thursday examining the preliminary report submitted by Income Tax recovery officials, who mentioned crores and billions of rupees in arrears of tax and pointed to black money stashed in Switzerland bank accounts by un patriotic and anti-social rich Indians of the country, all these years.
The Supreme Court wanted to expedite the process of enquiry losses incurred by Central Govt., in 2G Spectrum cases by the wanton and negligent policies of Union ministers. Justice Singhvi and Justice Ganguly formed the SC bench for the enquiry into black money and Income Tax losses to the exchequer.
All persons, high and mighty, involved in the scandals would be booked by the Apex Court without consideration of their power and position, the bench announced, to assure the public litigation complainants seeking justice.
Some progress had already taken place, the SC bench noted.
The Judges ordered the Income Tax dept, to submit its final report by May 13 next (in a week). Three years ago, a case was filed against Ms.Neera Radia and the entire action taken by ITD against her office was still awaited.
The misuse of 2G-Specturm by the Centre and other persons like politicians concerned is still under investigation. “What have you done so long”, asked the SC bench, while expressing its surprise over the astronomical figures in lakhs and crores of rupees involved in the dirty deals under the nose of a Central Govt. feigning ignorance and innocence since a deacde.
