Udupi: Hundreds of villagers from surrounding villages of Perdoor here demanded punishment to an accused, Monu or Iqbal, who on May 27 had raped a 10th standard school girl and sexually harassed many other school girls, in spite of being a married man from Aralikatte.
A case has been registered against Monu in the local police station after rural people of Perdoor, Kukkehalli, Bellarpady and Bairampalli protested and complained against the culprit.
There were 10 other cases of rape and sex assaults in the area, brought to police attention. A gang of social offenders, apart from Monu had involved, including a tyre shop worker, a local resident, and a house owner who harbored the rapists and their illegal who have been booked for these offences.
Udupi SP and Perdoor SI have been approached for justice by appeals from local people against Monu (son of a cloth shopkeeper in Perdoor uptown). A procession was taken out to publicise the gang’s illegal activities on Friday.
