Mangalore: City MP Nalin Kumar Kateel held bureaucratic officials responsible for the lapse of about 1.73 crores of rupees in 2 years from the funds provided from MPs account for developmental works not carried out in spite of grants made from time to time.
He said Rs. 3 crores was provided as grants, of which only Rs. 27 crores had been spent on various projects ion hand.
On Tuesday, June 7, the errant officials themselves gave the MP information on how much implementation had been on projects relating to local areas development in a meeting held at DC’s office to review various ongoing works in DK dt. The MP intervened in dissatisfaction and placed the blame on inefficient officials, and told them to complete those works on a time-bound scale and to send a fresh budget for those works not attempted as yet.
He warned the officials that grants should never go laps, once they are provided. He was holding such review meetings once in 3 months only to know what was happening. If several months are taken only to prepare a small budget, strong retaliatory action will be taken against the official concerned, he told them.
He also pointed out that under D V Sadananda Gowda’s grants in 2005-06, several works were kept pending and funds given were not utilized by ZP and other officials. The executive engineers should be present on site, to carry out various public works in allotted time, he specified with a touch of dissatisfaction over their activities.
The DC was present at the meeting and echoed MP’s sentiments on unused funds from MPs account towards welfare works.
