Mangalore: The Engineering students of local Srinivas College in Pandeshwar have invented a “Sixth Sense Gesture Recognition system” which interacts with manifest world and digital world, said Dr. Srinivas Mayya, Principal of Srinivas Institute of Technology, in a press conference called here on Tuesday.
The system is programmed in a way that gestures made in front of the system, are orally reproduced through a system, with which dumb people can easily interact with others, he explained.
The model has a camera that captures the hand gestures and sends them in digital form to a computer, where code is saved as written in MATLAB. Every gesture of the hand is unique. The captured image gets interpreted based on features and the audio file is triggered and stored in database. The device can be a gesture interpreter even when a dumb person visits a foreign country, the team of inventors stated.
The new system was invented by Electronics and Communication Engineering students (three of them), guided by Prof. K.Kumar, Prof. B. Lokesh and Prof. Bheema Shastry (HoD).
A car without a driver, but controlled by a mobile (phone) was introduced at the meet, along with 3 other students and their guides in a separate project, who created the car.
