Mangalore: MP Nalin Kumar Kateel inaugurates the Press Day celebration organized by the Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists’ Union at Press Club on July 1, Friday.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that in future days too, the media must publish or telecast healthy and developmental news this year. It is media’s responsibility to correct and give suggestions to the people. He also said that at present every field is filled with corruption and thus the media field which is present to create awareness must not have link with corruption. The journalists of Dakshina Kannada in this matter have special reputation compared to other places.
Media is the one which builds the reputation of leaders, ministers and celebrities and correct the mistakes of many people, he added.
Udayavani Bureau chief Manohar Prasad said that today people are not getting full information from the media. The media in hurry to telecast or publish news first are not giving importance to the factual information and just give the general information like common
people. Most of the Kannada dailies use the phrases and punctuation marks which is not necessary. The media which used to follow various rules like not displaying the name of girls under various circumstances are now giving every detail and making the life of victims miserable, he added.
Writer Narendra Rai Derla said that the journalists must keep them in place of audience and provide information in a positive manner. The writing must be in such a way that the reader must not speak after reading it, but he must maintain silent and enter deeply in t. He also said that the media must have the responsibility to provide factual and positive news to the society. There must be certain limits for a report to get publicity.
Though there is lot of problems in the villages, the media do not make any effort to visit the villages and focus on farmers problems. But they will visit village only when the ministers visit and nay murder take place, he said. The media always gives importance to the invention of famous scientist, but when the village people invent any medicine that cures any disease, it is given importance very rarely, he informed.
There are two types of people one is speaking class and other is non speaking class. The speaking class here is craze of publicity, but the non speaking class can experiment things but cannot explain in front of camera, he added. We can find statues of various freedom fighters
and politicians, but cannot find a farmers statue, he said.
Raveendra Shetty of Vijaya Karnataka compered the programme. DKWJU president P B Harish Rai welcomed the guests and gathering. Srinivas Indaje, reporter of Udaya TV proposed vote of thanks.
