Udupi: The 4 languages of Konkani, Koadava, Tulu and Beary languages flourishing on the coastal region, never impeded Kannada development in Kodagu and undivided DK districts, although they have 4 academies separately, so there is nothing to fear if English also was taught along with Kannada as before, 50 years ago, observed Udupi minister Dr. V.S Acharya in Kapu (Kaup), inaugurating an Udupi Taluk Kannada Literary Conference on July 3, at the U.B Shetty Hall here.
He asked present day teachers to follow those in olden days who were “walking libraries”, and contribute to new Kannada literary efforts.
Dr. Mahabaleshwar Rao of TMA Pai College presided. Vasant Salian, a former minister , opened a line of book stalls at the venue and sought the help of scholars to identify the writers in Kannada, and their contribution to the state literature. He called upon the state govt., to build Kannada Bahvanas in each of 30 districts of Karnataka, to kindle fresh love for Kannada among people.
Kaup MLA Lalaji Mendon also spoke at the meet, expressing happiness for organizing it at his constituency.
