Mangalore: The DK district Auto Rickshaw drivers Union Committee in association with DK district Auto RickshawDrivers Association, Janatha Auto Rickshaw and vehicle drivers union, Karnataka Rakshana Vedike Rickshaw Unit, Suratkal Auto Rickshaw drivers and owners Association, Minorities Auto Rickshaw Driver and Owners Association and Park Committee staged a protest rally from Hampankatta Circle to Nehru Maidan by pushing the Auto Rickshaw on July 12, Tuesday.
Addressing the protestor, B Vishnumurthy, general secretary said that the District Administration must revise the auto rickshaw meter charge; the central government has increased the petrol price from Rs 50 to Rs 70. The price for the LPG has increased to 30 to 40 percent.
Arun Kumar, vice president of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike Rickshaw Unit said that the insurance of the auto have increased to Rs 3000 from Rs 2000. The tyre price has become double. The auto drivers are leading the miserable life.
He also said that, the association had urged Deputy Speaker Yogesh Bhat to provide a spacious auto park, but still not provided.
Many times, the traffic police will charge the complaint against the auto drivers for the passenger pick while on running. This must be avoided.
Later the some of the members of committee submitted the memorandum to DC N S Channappa Gowda.
Around 500 auto drivers participated in the protest.
