Mumbai: The DGP of Maharashtra has declined to give permission to proceed against his police officer Daya(nanda)Nayak of Kundapura, now under suspension from service again, on the charge of accumulating more wealth than his actual salary and investments permit. The 41-year old “encounter specialist” of over 80 cases is now free to return to police service in the mega city here. The files are moving now, an SI Daya Nayak may be recalled in less than 2 months.
The Anti-corruption Bureau (ACB) had prepared a case against SI Daya Nayak, suspend ended several times on various counts. The DGP found no evidence or proof against Daya Nayak to proceed against, and rejected ACB plea to roll him on coals. The file on Daya was retuned last week and ACP Niket Kaushik confirmed these developments.
In 2006, Daya was accused of having Rs.60 lakhs worth of properties in the names of his wife and himself. He was arrested and released on bail after 60 days. He was suspended from service later. The supreme Court deleted all charges under MOCA against SI Daya Nayak. He confirmed that he had no contact with criminal gangs, as alleged by a scribe, Thirodkar, who retired.
