Mangalore: It will be a blend of cultural extravaganxa, launch of socially relevant project and felicitations to war veterans will mark the Navaras Utsav and Kargil Vijay Divas commemoration to be held at Don Bosco Hall on July 26, Tuesday under the auspices of the various wings of Centre for Integrated Learning (CIL), said CIL Director Sachitha Nandagopal.
Speaking at the press meet she said that, Navaras Utsav will be a unique programme showcasing the talents of people from different segments of the society with the objective of ‘Bringing people together through dance’. Being presented by CIL’s cultural wing- Navaras Hobby Dancers Club, Navaras Utsav is an effort to bring amateur artists drawn from array of backgrounds to perform on one stage with the theme ‘Colours of India’ depicting cultural diversity of our country. The groups that will perform include ones from old age home, orphanages, blind school. Specially abled, housewives, students and professionals among others. It is a unique experiment being conducted for the first time to bring such diverse groups of people together through the medium of dance.
CREST president Abdul Basith said that in its effort to inculcate a sense of national pride and patriotism among children and youth, CIL will be commemorating the Kargil Vijay Divas by recognizing and felicitation war veterans from our city. Those to be felicitated include Colonel N S Bhandary, Brigadier N Rai and Wing Commander Dev Rao Belle who have been veterans of Indo- Pak war of the 70’s and served the Indian forces on different fronts.
Celebrating the first anniversary of CREST (Creating Resources to Empower Society Today), the youth wing of Centre for Integrated Learning, a unique environmental friendly CREST Bag project will be launched on the occasion. An initiative to reduce the use of plastics will be launched by the Commissioner of Mangalore City Corporation Dr K N Vijayaprakash. The project is unique for the fact that the shopping bags are prepared by the inmates of the Mobility Centre for the Blind at Attavar, from the old clothes collected from households in the city. This is envisaged to be a social entrepreneurship venture that will go a long way in reducing the use of plastics in the city.
Centre for Integrated Learning has been striving to evolve strategies and interventions that adds value to the present education system and is working with children and youth in sensitizing them towards social causes.
