Mangalore: A part of a century old business complex located in well known Bhavanthi Street near Car Street, in a rickety condition has collapsed on Monday night at 10pm (July 25), with the entire weak structure posing a threat of complete collapse at any time now.
In 1999, the owner of this tottering building had asked MCC to allow him to demolish the building in view of its dilapidated condition. But the MCC Commissioner then did not permit and the building survived for 12 years, before a portion came down last night.
The dairy lodged in that part was crushed. But no one was around, when the incident took place. R. Puthran owns the dairy that fell.
The local cooperator, Ms. Surekha Srinivas turned up only at 11 am on Tuesday, in spite of calls made to MCC at night. The loss of dairy is around Rs. 2 lacs. 3 more shops are waiting for demolition in that building but MCC remains inert
