Mangalore: A display of 21 art works by 18 artists from across India, created on the occasion of world Konkani Convention-2010 by Mandd Sobhann team of enthusiasts, and called “Colourful Shadows”, opened at Orchid Art Gallery in Hampankatta here on July 28,Thursday.
Ray Castelino a patron of arts, inaugurated the exhibition traditionally. Ray later told that these works of (painting)art depicted Konkani culture, and requested the admirers to buy them, to help the artists. William Pais, Director of the Gallery, said that the 21 oil and acrylic paintings on view, represented a rich and colourful local culture.
A fisherman with a basket full of fish catch, a smoke-filled kitchen, a tribal folk dance in front of a hut, a lady holding a lamp before a Tulsi plant etc, are some of these paintings.
The display is open till August 4, with heart-touching themes, drawn by artists like Ahmed, Ramesh Rao, Kandan, Veena, Purushotham Adve and Syed Asif Ali, besides others.
