Mangalore, Aug 15: The district administration and the state government had worked for the development of the state for about 3 years and two months and will further continue its developmental programmes in DK without any communal or gender discrimination under the guidance of CM DV Sadananda Gowda, said Krishna J. Palemar, the district-in-charge minister, in his 65th Independence Day address at a special programme organized by the district administration at Nehru Maidan on the morning of Aug 15, Monday.
Earlier, the minister hoisted the national flag in the presence of prominent personalities and inspected the guard of honor in a vehicle. Eighteen teams comprising Reserve Police, District Armed Reserve (DAR) police, Civil, Traffic, Coast Guards, Home Guards, Guides, Scouts, NCC Naval Senior and Junior, NCC Army Junior and Senior, Bharat Seva Dal boys and girls team, Police band, Sri Satya Sai Band, Alike and students participated in the Independence Day parade.
Palemar also assured the people that the state government will implement all the proposed developmental and welfare scheme at the earliest possible.
Speaking about the developmental projects undertaken in DK during the last three years, the minister said that over the state has given the loan to the farmers and weavers at the interest of 10 percent. It has also given the free electricity for agricultural purposes; small scale farmers were given the amount of Rs 1000 for the development of unfertile land.
He also said that over Rs. 1,126 crore have been spent on developing DK. He said that Rs. 47.51 have been spent on solving drinking water problems in rural areas and Rs. 26.06 crore have been earmarked for constructing roads in rural areas. Rs 137.59 crore granted for road construction.
DC Chennappa Gowda, Mangalore Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh, Superintendent of Police Labu Ram and Deputy Speaker Yogish Bhat and many other prominent citizens of Mangalore participated in the Independence Day programme.
As a part of the independence day, the Dakshina Kannada Sports Promoters organized the 5 over Independence Cup Cricket, in which SP team, DC team, Bank team, Mayor Team, Press Team will play against each other.
