Mangalore: Where nature is kind and forests abound, students and Lions club members went and planted 3000 saplings on Thursday, in 32 species.
The saplings were planted in front of Pilikula Science Centre and Karanth Biological Park. The afforestation programme was conducted by Sharada College students with Lions International, who plan to plant over 40 lakhs saplings in South India as part of Lions Green Revolution drive.
J.R.Lobo(ED) said the most important part of Vana Mahotsava was not to make it Ona (dry) planting! He wanted only beneficial plants to be planted.
Lobo, ED of Nisargadhama, emphasised on preserving native species of W.Ghats. People have to actively involve in nature conservation for a happy living, he said.
Lions club Dt.Governor G.K.Rao spoke of planting 5000 saplings in Pilikula. M.B.Sadashiva (Lion) and M.B.Puranik of Sharada college were present.
