Udupi: MLA of Udupi K. Raghupathi Bhat is disappointed that the Centre did not respond favourably to the suggestion of making the Karnataka Karavali (Sea side) areas a tourist hub with many ports, fishing harbours, natural sceneries, and eco-friendly constructions to accommodate inland tourists and foreigners in areas like Someshwara, Thanneeru Bavi, Malpe,Bhatkal, Murudeshwara, Kaup, Karwar and so on. He was addressing a city Municipal Council (CMC) meeting on Tuesday.
A proposal with Rs47 Crores tag was sent to the Delhi Govt., but no reply was received. The UPA govt had allowed no funds to develop west Coast region of Karnataka. Several shore stretches needed repairs but only Rs 90 lakhs was earmarked in last budget for these stretches, so the new CM (Gowda) has been approached for further cash assistance.
Balaipade-Kinnimulki stretch is in a technical process of development, Bhat mentioned.
CMC members Amritha Krishnamurthy and Sumitra Nayak asked for increase in length of Kinnimulki upper bridge, and repairs to bad road stretches at Parkala. Commissioner Gokuldas Nayak revealed that Rs 27 lakhs were taken by 2700 beneficiaries under SC/ST health cards scheme of CM so far. Bhat pointed out that banks were impending housing targets by their anxiety over repayment of loans. Several matters wee discussed.
