Udupi: Hundreds of litres of fresh Goat-milk, at Rs 80 a litre and Rs 40 per packet of 5ooml (half litre), under the brand name “Nedur Goat Milk” from 2 NRI entrepreneurs(Christians) having a farm of 2,000 goats in Udupi taluk, are flowing into DK district, and Bangalore, giving a tough fight in sales to Nandini brand Cow/buffalo milk packets presently.
The consumers do not mind paying a higher price in the name of “Gandhigiri” as Mahatma Gandhi had only goat’s milk in his days(before 1948) in his ashrams in Maharashtra or Gujerat.
The milk is nutritious and medicinal(in properties) for the Asthma patients and growing small children. The milk is marketed by Food world chain of shops.
The goats usually are maintained for their tender flesh by farmers or consumers. But for common people it is like a “heavenly cow” now, with health improvements seen after consuming goat’s milk which is used by the doctors for medical treatment in modern/ancient methods.
Babies develop inner strength with nutritious goat’s milk, so there is great demand in Karnataka for this milk, over the weak Tamilnadu milk that is below quality from across the borders, say Animal Husbandry officials.
