Mangalore: The immersion journey (Shobha yatra) of the Hindu Yuva Sene public idol of Ganapathy, had its final Puja and procession on the night of Wednesday, Sept.7 with large cracker bursts, Bhajans, waving of lamps, besides nearly 20000 devotees in attendance, to round-off a week along festivity when lakhs of visitors paid their respects in large decorated pandal to the deity.
Yuva Sena Volunteers began the immersion procession process for the handsome (deity) idol at 8 pm from Nehru maidan, winding their way in lines through main roads of Hampankatta, and Kodialbail, on way to the large overflowing lake in front of Kudteri Mahamaya Temple near Car street.
The idol was gradually immersed in the large pond in clean waters. Rains had proceeded the day of this Shobha Yathra , and also poured later in the night,and next morning.
Thousands of people stood on road sides watching many tableaus, bursting of sky crackers and praising puranic episodes on view, besides dancers, that studded the long colourful procession, under police surveillance.
