Mangalore: A Group of Bihar MLAs touring Karnataka to study Panchayat institutions and tax(revenue)collections in this state, were happy about the better condition of local DK panchayats and the state, in taxes. 10 out of 18 members in a team were in Mangalore on Thursday and felt impressed by the community development under Panchayats here, over 5 decades and met MCC Commissioner/ Zilla Panchayat-CEO, Dr. K.N.Vijay Prakash for his advice.
The leader A.P.Yadav, MLA, said his group wanted to imbibe the practices that suited best to Bihar’s GP system and tell the Government. He praised the levels reached by Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat by reaching out to people.
The committee on Panchayats has visited Bangalore and Mysore already. The Dakshina Kannada CEO told the visitoes that 203 GPs in DK collected 93% tax revenues. In Bihar, it was far less as 42% were in BPL, MLS admitted. The Bihar legislators showed interest in Nirmal Gram, education levels, water supply systems and roads in rural areas of DK and Karnataka.
