New Delhi: It was a sweep of the South India at the National Film Awards ceremony.
At the top, Tamil’s K. Balachander, a doyen of new trend Cinema, received the DadaSaheb Phalke award for 2010, from President Pratibha D. Patil who praised his films. The programme was held at Vigyan Bhawan, on Friday September 9. Patil informed that the director (K.B.) touched upon middle class social tensions and political themes too. He did films in 4 languages; including Hindi (EK Duje ke Liye) 23 films were given awards as feature ones.
Malayalam cinema received Golden Lotus (Swarna Kamal) for the best film in which versatile comedian Salim Kumar Collected Rajat Kamal (Silver Lotus) award, as a simple man seeking salvation in “Adaminte Makan Abu”.
Tamil film “Aadukalam” secured 6 awards to make its director Maaran, both proud and delighted. The Rajnikant starrer “Enthiran” won the best special effects award.
Producer Anant Mahadevan’s film “Mee Sindhutai Sapkal” got 4 awards. In Hindi, Viahal Bhardwaj and wife Rekha bassed best Music and singing prizes.
There was no mention of Kannada or Telugu picture for 2010.
