Bangalore : He was the Indian Wicket-Keeper and captain before Dhoni and on his vacating the driver’s seat-Dhoni made a name as Captain-wicketkeeper-batsman for India-in Cricket.
Dravid is gracefully saying Good-bye to ODI(50overs one day game) today on September 16 at Cardiff in UK, on Sofia Gardens grounds. He appears for the last time in the Indian battle dress in blue in his 344 ODI games. He played the last such game in 2007 but was suddenly recalled to rescue the hopeless Team India which was losing its pre-eminent position held till then. He led 79 ODI matches, won 42, lost 33 and 4 were scrapped. Dravid has opted for retirement from the clipped varieties of cricket such as 50 overs and T-20, after today.(Friday). Dravid never got out for Zero in 120 continuous matches played as a skipper, and holds third place after Tendulkar(93) and Inzamamul Huq(83) by hitting, 82 half centuries(or more) as the captain. Dravid had several wicket partnership scores shared with Tendulkar, one of them lasting 331 runs against New Zealand in Hyderabad during 1999.
Dravid has been a model to all young cricketers aiming to be Test players, such as Suresh Raina, Yuvaraj Singh and Virat Kohli. Dravid was very unhappy when he was replaced as captain but should his mettle in action in batting, as wicket-keeper and fielder. He was never a bowler but found his place at no.3 in the Team India furlong. He is 38now.
