Mangalore: The fishermen are facing lot of problem in the coastal region while fishing; hence the dredging work worth 10,000 has been done in harbor, said District in charge minister Krishna J Palemar.
Speaking at the programme held at Matsyagandi, Bundar on September 17, he said that today 6 fishermen are missing and pray to god for their safe return to their family without any injury.
The state government has decided to each the amount of Rs 1 lakh to the family of missing fishermen and Rs 25,000 to the injured fishermen. The Chief Minister D.V Sadananda Gowda, he said.
The government is planning to give permanent solution for sea erosion by the construction of permanent retaining wall and new dredger will also be brought to remove the silt from sea, he informed.
Minister also said that today four lakh million tons of fishes are exported to foreign countries and Dakshina Kannada district alone collects around 1,13,000 ton fish for export, in this case, protecting fishermen is the duty of government.
The infrastructure work worth Rs 2 lakhs is being done in Hejamady. Further diesel required for the fishermen for the boats in the coming days, he said.
He said that the state government condemns the act of NMPT who have sent the injured fishermen back by warning, instead of helping them in their difficulties. The fisheries department will take action against the officials and authorities for showing such merciless reaction to fishermen.
He urged the fishermen to take full benefits from the government facilities.
Deputy Speaker N Yogesh Bhat, said that the matter of NMPT has been personally sent to CM and urged to take action against them for not responding and provide security to the fishermen.
The dredging file of March has been cleared in the state and the file of July has reached to a level. This will be sent through Nithin Kumar and asked for clearance, he said.
KFDC president Nithin Kumar welcomed the gathering and said that there are 1,500 technical small and big boats functioning in Bundar. The government completed the tender process of the extension of the harbor upto 1,100 meters, he said.
The sea is very rough at this time near Alive Bagilu and it is difficult to go and come from there, hence they take permission to go and come out of NMPT, but the authorities sent the security to send them back with gun. They were merciless towards the fishermen, he added.
