Mangalore : Center for eGovernance CEO Dr. D. S. Ravindran, said that around 225 registration centres will be established in order to register for a unique identification number (UID) under the Aadhar Scheme on September 29.
He was speaking at the press meet held at DC Court on September 23, Friday. He also said that this scheme aims at providing UIDs to all the citizens of the country.
Explaining on the registration process, he said that the applicants have to provide their fingerprints and photographs and undergo an iris scan. The registration process might take over 2 months, since DK has a population of 21 lakh, he informed.
The applicants can submit any of the 17 documents listed such as passports, ration cards, PAN cards, voters’ id, ATM cards, credit cards with photographs and driving license with photographs.
The applicants can get additional details from http://uidai.gov.in, he informed. Call centers related to the scheme are also available and citizens with queries can call the national hotline 1-800-180-1947 or the state helpline 080-44554455.
The documentation of fingerprints and iris scans is a complex process and each centre can take just 50 cards per day as it takes 6 – 12 minutes to register a number.
Aadhar is an identification number, which will enable citizens to utilize government facilities, he clarifies.
